Cosmetic Rejeuvenation

Surgery to rejeuvenate the face will reduce the visible signs of aging. To understand how this works, the face must be considered in 3 separate zones including the upper face, mid face and lower face / neck. The effect of surgery is different in each of these zones.

What does surgery do?

Surgery to address the aging appearance is REJEUVENATIVE surgery. This restores a more youthful appearance, but does NOT change a persons basic features. Rejeuvenative surgery LIFTS sagging skin, and REMOVES excess skin. Most patients seeking elective aesthetic facial surgery choose this type of surgery. In some cases, patients seek a COSMETIC change to the natural shape of the face in addition to rejeuvenation. This changes a persons features, such as contouring the shape of a nose, changing the crease of the eyelid, or augmenting / enhancing the appearance of the chin or cheek with an implant. At other times, patients seek COSMETIC surgery alone without REJEUVENATIVE surgery, to address isolated areas of the face only.

Types of surgery

Surgery includes brow lift, upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), cheek / midface surgery, face lift, neck lift, nose surgery or implant surgery. These can be carried out alone or in combination.

Minimal incision surgery refers to small incision face lifts, or less invasive procedures such as liposuction. These are useful to address focal areas of the face only, and their effect is less pronounced. Standard incision surgery features longer incisions to address wider areas, and these incisions are well hidden so that they are hardly visible even to the patient after surgery.

Timing of surgery

Rejeuvenation surgery is undertaken at different times. Blepharoplasty surgery is suitable for young patients with heavy lids, Asians seeking a "double lid fold", or older patients with excess skin. Brow lift is commonly sought after by women in the late 30's or early 40's, and Face lift is often appropriate in the mid 50's for women.
