Excess skin, muscle or fat causes bulging and hollows in the lower eyelid, appearing as puffiness or bags accentuated under different lighting conditions. If this is you, a lower eyelid blepharoplasty may help.
Blepharoplasty Surgery
We offer a very special type of surgery that removes excess skin and bulging fat as well as tightening your droopy lower eyelid to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result. Sometimes this is done through the skin and sometimes from the inside of the eyelid.
Blepharoplasty is carried out under local anaesthetic with sedation and you can go home 2 hours after surgery.
After Blepharoplasty
A small dressing over the upper eyelid can be removed day 1. You may then shower and wet the wound. In most cases, bruising settles by 2 weeks with swelling taking a little longer. Bruising and swelling will worsen over days 1 – 3. Stitches are removed at days 5 – 7. Most people return to work after 2 weeks.
Place clean ice packs on the eyelids for 10 minutes every hour for the first 48 hours and clean the wound gently with a clean damp cloth. Smear a small amount of antibiotic ointment along the wound 4 times a day for 1 week with a clean finger or cotton bud. Sunglasses help to cover bruising and swelling.
Remember
- Pain relief medications have side effects including nausea, dizziness, and constipation
- The final appearance occurs once the swelling has completely subsided
